“ADI has cloned and expressed various MERS recombinant proteins, made antibodies, and developed various ELISA kits to detect antibodies in animals and humans..." added Dr. Ali.
The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) outbreak over the past several years has created an urgent need for diagnostic and therapeutic solutions. Alpha Diagnostic International, Inc. (ADI) has developed multiple ELISA test kits for screening MERS virus infections. These test kits will greatly enhance the ability to screen and quarantine humans and other animal species suspected of being infected by the MERS virus and become an important diagnostic tool for the health community as they work to combat further spread of the disease. For additional details on MERS-CoV related products, please visit: http://4adi.com/objects/catalog/product/extras/MERS_Vaccine_ELISA_Flr.pdf

MERS is a viral respiratory infection suspected to be derived from bats. MERS symptoms can range from asymptomatic to severe or even lethal. MERS infected individuals exhibit a high fatality rate with about a third of confirmed cases succumbing to death. What was first identified as an outbreak restricted to countries within the Arabian Peninsula has now shown up in several other Asian countries. The largest outbreak outside of Saudi Arabia was in South Korea in May of 2015 with 36 confirmed deaths and several thousand individuals quarantined. In total worldwide, there have been 1,791 confirmed cases of MERS-CoV, 640 MERS-CoV related deaths, and 27 affected countries.
“ADI has recognized the urgency and importance of developing diagnostic reagents to test for potential viral infection since the very first outbreak in the Middle East during 2012,” says Dr. Masarrat Ali, Scientific Director and President of ADI. “ADI has cloned and expressed various MERS recombinant proteins, made antibodies, and developed various ELISA kits to detect antibodies in animals and humans. ADI is the first company to introduce commercial ELISA kits to detect antibodies in humans, camels, and many other species,” added Dr. Ali.

The MERS ELISA kits developed by ADI allow for the testing of 96 samples using a single kit; each kit contains all reagents and positive and negative controls to perform the tests. These kits have been developed for testing samples in humans, camels, bats, pigs, cows, goats, and sheep. For each species, there are 3 different kits available for testing antibodies against nucleoprotein, spike protein 1, and spike protein 2.

“Now, there is no reason to invest a lot of time and money to ship samples to specialized testing laboratories or become a victim of any ‘adulterated-meat’ scandals,” added Dr. Ali.
Alpha Diagnostic International, Inc. (ADI) is excited to announce the launch of TruStrip Rapid Meat Identification Test Kit for the screening of adulteration in ground meat products. This revolutionary test kit vastly simplifies the process of screening ground meat products for any undesired meats and can be performed by any individual without the need for special training or instrumentation. The results of the test are obtained within a matter of minutes—similar to performing a home-based pregnancy test. This new product is an evolution from the previous 1-hour ELISA test kit for the testing of horse, pig, and rat meats. For a video demonstration of the TruStrip Rapid Meat Identification Test Kit, please visit: https://trustrips.com/TruStripRDT/RDT-Videos

Adulterated ground meat is a major source of concern in the food industry, typically resulting in huge losses for the producers of meat products. Similar to the horse meat scandal in Europe in 2013 that resulted in the recall of large quantities of ground meat products from grocery stores and restaurants, the fear of tainted or adulterated meat is a concern to consumers as well. Ethical and religious concerns are two of the main issues for consumers, fueling the need for a simple testing method that can be used by any individual. Compared to other time-consuming testing methods such as PCR-based assays or ELISA tests that require specialized training, testing facilities, and instrumentation, the TruStrip test kit can be used in any environment and produces results within minutes.
“The availability of a simple test that can be performed by anyone without any special training or instrumentation is a valuable product that can be utilized by a broad number of users ranging from food testing laboratories, ground meat producers, restaurateurs, grocery stores, and even regular consumers,” says Dr. Masarrat Ali, Scientific Director and President of ADI. “Now, there is no reason to invest a lot of time and money to ship samples to specialized testing laboratories or become a victim of any ‘adulterated-meat’ scandals,” added Dr. Ali.

The TruStrip Rapid Meat Identification Test Kit is available as a 10-test, 25-test, and 100-test kit and contains all reagents, test strips, and positive and negative control samples. The kit is designed for testing ground meat from species that include pork, beef, goat, chicken, and horse. The kit can be used to test any ground meat sample for the presence of adulterating meat from a single species and up to 5 species in a single assay. Successful Trial of Zika vaccine in mice using ADI's Zika Env ELISA kits

Alpha Diagnostic International's (ADI) Mouse ZIKV Env ELISA kits were used in the peer reviewed paper published yesterday in the journal Nature. The authors demonstrate that two different ZIKV vaccine candidates provided complete protection in mice against a ZIKV strain from Brazil and suggest that a ZIKV vaccine for humans will likely be feasible. The rapid development of a safe and effective vaccine to prevent the Zika virus (ZIKV) is a global priority, as infection in pregnant women has been shown to lead to fetal microcephaly and other major birth defects.  Science Daily news release reported that vaccine protection against Zika has been achieved- https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/06/160628114836.htm

The neutralizing antibodies that provided immunity to Zika infection were assessed using ADI’s ZIKV Env ELISA kits. http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/vaap/ncurrent/pdf/nature18952.pdf

ADI's mission is to develop and supply diagnostic and validating solutions for promoting global health through improved vaccine therapeutics and mitigating the spread of human and animal diseases.

ADI has remained faithful to its mission by being the first company to develop ELISA kits during the Ebola virus epidemic in Africa as well as the Zika virus episodes in Brazil and the Americas.
